The Area 

Located on the banks of the Waghur river, Fardapur is a thriving town situated at the outskirts of Aurangabad and more popularly known as the 'Gateway to Ajanta.' While the town is also home to an antique sarai and an adjacent mosque that are both architectural landmarks, Ajanta caves are a true art and architectural marvel that depict the life of Buddha through a series of beautifully created sculptures and paintings. They date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 CE, making it one of the oldest surviving masterpieces of art. It is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Although centuries have passed since they were built, you will still find yourself mesmerized by the beauty of the caves.
