Sevagram

Sevagram

About

Famously known for Gandhi’s Ashram, Sevagram is a small village located just outside of Wardha. Gandhiji established his residence here in 1936 and brought his wife Kasturba with him. Later, due to work responsibilities, he had to invite more colleagues and soon, Sevagram became a full-fledged institution. The huts built in the ashram are similar to that of other homes from the village. The very first hut that was built, Adi Niwas, where Gandhiji stayed initially still stands tall in the ashram.

Other residences you can explore are Kasturba’s Hut - Ba Kuti, Gandhiji’s Hut - Bapu Kuti, and Akhari Niwas where Gandhiji stayed before leaving for Noakhali. You can also see the common kitchen, guest room, and the residences of Gandhiji’s close associates. To get a better glimpse into Gandhiji’s life, you can walk through the Gandhi Photo Exhibition which showcases the life and works of Gandhiji.
