About

Located 28 km away from Nashik is the small town of Trimbak which is also the origin of river Godavari. This town is famous for its ancient Hindu temple of the Lord Shiva, Trimbakeshwar. Built in the 17th century by Nana Saheb Peshwa, the temple is entirely built of black stone. It is considered as the holy grail of spiritual salvation as it is one of the 12 holy and auspicious Jyotirlingas flocked to by the devotees of Lord Shiva. The temple rests on the foothills of Brahmagiri hill, surrounded by lush greenery.

The holy Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga temple is said to be one of the unique temples in appearance for its artistic finesse and structure. The beauty of this temple lies in the architecture, carvings and three lingas representing Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. The lingas are embellished with a jeweled crown made of diamonds, emeralds, and other semi-precious stones. Various mythological stories from the past make this temple one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations, which is blessed with the presence of Lord Shiva.
